  2. I was curious to see how well the Amiga in HAM mode could reproduce a 24-bit
  3. real color image, so this is what I came up with.  I scanned these
  4. pictures with an Eikonix 1435 35mm slide scanner hooked up to a Sun
  5. Microsystems workstation.  The images were scanned originally at the
  6. full resolution of the scanner, 4096x2800 pixels at 36-bits per pixel.
  7. The images were cropped, gamma corrected, scaled, and converted to Amiga
  8. IFF HAM files on the Sun, then downloaded over a modem connection to my
  9. Amiga at home.

  11. No color correction was performed to account for the (significant)
  12. differences between the JVC monitors (which the data is corrected for)
  13. I use at work, and the Commodore 1084S I have at home.  Also,
  14. the program I wrote to perform the conversion does not fully implement the
  15. algorithm I originally developed for this purpose, so there is certainly
  16. room for improvement.

  18. Most of these images were scanned from negatives, the only slides I
  19. scanned were the Porsche 930, the DC-10, and the Sante Fe locomotive.
  20. No attempt was made artificially enhance these images, other than unsharp
  21. masking.  However, in the future I will probably perform some histogram
  22. equalization as it certainly helps those originals which are "flat" in
  23. appearance, and those which were under- or over-exposed.

  26. In the "Source" directory is a program I wrote to load these pictures,
  27. as I couldn't find an ILBM loader which handled overscan, and ran from
  28. the workbench.
